How is the aluminium frame constructed?

Our aluminium frames are designed to work perfectly with our laminated insulating glazing units. They are crafted from highly durable and strong 5 mm aluminium, selected for its high corrosion resistance, joint strength and malleability. They are treated with a polyester powder coating to ensure a hard and durable outside finish. The standard RAL powder coating on our frames is a RAL 9005 Jet Black or, RAL 703 Traffic Grey 

How is the upstand constructed?

Our rooflights come with a wooden upstand that uses EPS insulation foam. The natural wood allows for an easy and safe installation and is a perfect match to the remaining rooflight construction. The upstand comes with a superior pre-fitted gasket system, ensuring a 100% tight and secure connection between the frame and upstand construction. The internal surface and the top of the upstand is treated with a membrane of waterbased white coating (RAL 9010) on the waterproof plywood. The external surface of the upstand consists of untreated waterproof plywood , which is great for applying roofing felt or other flat roof or roof terrace materials. Our upstands come in 150 and 300 mm, depending on project requirements and architectural specifications.


Does The Round Rooflight come with an upstand?

The Round Rooflight is the only product in the Vario by VELUX product portfolio, which does not come with an upstand. However, we don't leave you entirely on your own! Vario by VELUX will supply a top-plate (RAL 9010) with a pre-installed gasket system for optimal air tightness, ensuring a 100% tight and secure connection between the frame and upstand construction. It will be necessary for the upstand for The Round Rooflight to be constructed by others. The upstand can be built in various ways to fit the architectural requirements of the building. However, if you are interested in the Vario by VELUX way of building, so you know what to specify, we use a wooden upstand of min 150 mm that is insulated with EPS insulating foam.
